Informal training is great during a live engagement. However, there is minimal formal training for Consulting grads.
Formal Training is standard and healthy with freedom of access, which is commendable, informal training is non-existent, Seniors are too backloaded with tasks to be able to advise on how to act with regards to tasks, the phrase 'figure it out' encapsulates the sentiment well.
It's very much a learn on the job type job, due to the technical and varied nature of this line of work. There was a week of modules and group work to introduce us to the basics. So far I have picked up: pragmatism, as each minute I use is billed to people who have already lost a lot of money; time management, as formal engagements have strict deadlines; and cash flow forecasting.
There could be more cross training between service lines
