There's a lot of training provided especially for junior staff. It's a mix of internal and external training sometimes with other firms.
Nexia Sydney provides us with monthly tax trainings which has been significantly beneficial in building on our fundamental entry level knowledge / skills. As a cadet, the firm organized fortnightly business advisory and audit training events, known as the Insight Program. Where we could learn about the basics of tax return, FBT, audit regulation and etc., and these sessions would be run by all different firms. Which was great for socializing with other cadets and graduate accountants that worked at other mid-tier accounting firms.
Insight training with other firms on common topics. On the job training with boss, mentor and buddy
I’ve been really satisfied with both the formal and informal training opportunities. The structured graduate program, along with support for CA studies, gives me a clear pathway for developing my technical skills. At the same time, there’s a lot of informal learning through day-to-day work, where managers and senior team members are always willing to explain concepts or share practical tips. That mix of formal training and on-the-job guidance has helped me feel supported and confident in building my career.
The hands on/on the job training has been the most helpful, as uni doesn’t always provide the full picture of real life work. I’ve learned a lot by asking questions of supervisors, managers and partners and by working directly with clients. The firm also provides formal training sessions with specialists, as well as an on demand learning program that offers technical and soft skills training. Additionally, there is a mentoring program and I’ve benefited from a lot of informal mentoring as well. Since joining, some key skills I’ve developed include time management, client communication and systems knowledge (including AI).
