The recruitment process took quite long. To go from my application to psychometric evaluation, assessment centre, interview, to my letter of offer took 3 months. Then the earliest I could start was another 3 months after that.
The interview process is very similar to other government IT roles. They do an initial questionnaire online, an online recorded interview, an in-person assessment centre (as a group), and then the final interview. Whilst there are a lot of steps to this process, I found QAO's responses (particularly to the online sections, communicated via email) to occur within a reasonable and consistent timeframe.

The interview process was well designed, with multiple rounds allowing you to showcase your personality and abilities through a number of different avenues.
