Initially, the promotion possibilities were great, as I quickly moved into higher duties. However, my team is now a legacy team and I am not sure I will have a job post March 2026.
I have had opportunities to step up into higher duties roles. However, ultimately my team is becoming redundant as new technologies are adopted by the organization. With that there's no further opportunities to progress in my current team and due to my experience being with older technology, I am not competitive for other roles in different teams.
After 12 months in my role I was successful in applying transfer from temporary to permanent fulltime, that was a seamless process and is great for my future. One frustrating thing is I have not been granted any placements in other teams - something that is encouraged in my graduate program - which could assist my job progression.
Every promotion in government seems to require going through the recruitment process again. So as a graduate, even though I'm currently working in the team and wish to stay on the team, it's seeming like I'll have to go through recruitment again if a role is created for me in the team. Nothing's been confirmed as of yet.
