Again, a mixed bag. I have experience fantastic leaders in my space, always helping me with projects and making sure I am having the best grad experience. But I've heard in other pathways there are grads not being checked in on, no support and sometimes not enough work. It's a total gamble what type of manager you will get, my recommendation is to get good at managing up so that if you're unlucky, you're at least prepared.
My manager is really kind and thoughtful. She is an excellent communicator. She is honest, straightforwards and objective in her performance feedback or praise and recognition. She is personable, approachable and collaborative in person.
Yes they make good mentors and take time to listen
My manager and I meet on a regular basis and he provides a lot of feedback and advice for where I should move next within the organisation.
