Culture seems to have improved somewhat in the last few years. I think a lot of this has to do with the upper leadership of the organisation (Meg and Liz). Not trying to blow smoke up management's bums, but their good nature and lack of ego makes for a much more pleasant place to work. The example that they set inevitably filters down to middle management, so there are no complaints in this regard from me. Disclaimer: I've also been very lucky to be part of two really great teams, so this may have informed the above response.
