I was able to be moved amongst teams to provide a broader experience of my internship and expand my learning. To seek this opportunity I was able to have a discussion with my manager and able to come up with a solution to make the move work.
The promotion possibilities, as far as I know, in my role involve increases alongside your years of experience and engineer certification progressions (chartership and so on...). There are different paths such as team/project managers or purely senior/principal engineer positions. To move up these positions is a combination of experience, skill, work ethic, and recognition of these things through systems like thrive. Yes, I think my employer provides opportunities to fulfil career aspirations due to the size and scope of different work that WSP engages in.
I have accessibility to a number of different engineering sectors which helps me explore different areas of interest.
As an intern there is the possibility of completing my placement hours with the business and then eventually move into a Graduate position if all goes well. Until that time, promotion opportunities are not applicable. There are however lots of interesting projects to assist with depending on your skills.
